Brewing Questions Answered

Why choose loose-leaf herbal tea?

Loose-leaf herbal teas are one of the freshest and most complete ways to enjoy herbs. Unlike tea bags (which often contain finely ground or lower-grade material), loose herbs retain more of their natural oils,
aroma, and flavor. Our blends are thoughtfully crafted using whole herbs that have a long history of traditional use—never synthetic additives or artificial
flavors.

What’s the best way to brew your loose-leaf herbal teas?

Brewing herbal tea is easy:

  • Heat water to about 185°F (do not boil the water)
  • Pour over loose tea in a strainer or infuser
  • Steep for 7–20 minutes, depending on how strong you like it

Unlike coffee or high-caffeine teas, herbal teas don’t become bitter with longer steeping, so feel free to experiment and find
your perfect cup.

What is the best way to steep herbal teas?

There are many ways to brew herbal teas. You can heat the herbs in a pot and strain into a cup or use a strainer or infuser under hot water. Steep 7–20 minutes depending on strength—herbal teas are forgiving and never turn bitter.

For a premium experience, Fiddlehead Farm offers a high-quality stainless steel strainer/ infuser that makes every cup simple and perfectly
infused.

Should herbal teas be enjoyed hot or cold?

Both. Herbal teas offer different experiences depending on temperature. When enjoyed hot, you’ll notice fuller aromas carried by the steam. When served cold or over ice, the flavors can feel brighter, often with a heightened sense of natural sweetness. Because herbal teas are naturally non-bitter,
they hold up beautifully whether brewed hot or cold. However you choose to enjoy them, our teas are crafted to shine at any temperature.

Can I create my own custom tea blend?

Absolutely. One of the joys of loose-leaf herbal tea is the freedom to blend and experiment. Feel free to mix two or more of our teas to create something uniquely yours.

For a refreshing iced tea, try brewing lemon balm and anise hyssop together. The lemon balm brings bright, citrusy notes, while the anise hyssop adds a naturally sweet, unexpected finish. Served over ice, this blend is refreshing, balanced, and one you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again.

Why is Fiddlehead Farm tea different?

Our teas are grown in regeneratively cared-for soil and crafted entirely by hand. We use no synthetic chemicals—ever. By focusing on soil health and natural growing methods, we produce herbs that are more vibrant, flavorful, and true to the plant. From field to cup, every step is intentional, small-scale, and rooted in care.

Why does place matter to your teas?

Our farm is in Kentucky’s Appalachian region, where many of the herbs we grow are native or well-adapted to this land. Growing herbs in the environment they naturally thrive in allows them to develop more fully and authentically. We’re proud to carry the Appalachia Proud certification, which recognizes products that are grown and crafted in Appalachia with integrity, care, and respect for place.

Can herbal teas really enhance your life?

Herbal teas have been shared across cultures for generations—valued for their flavor, ritual, and connection to the natural
world. Many people explore herbs for their potential to support daily well-being, and there’s a wealth of knowledge available for those who wish to learn more.

We encourage you to listen to your body, do your own research, and care for yourself first. We craft our teas for simple enjoyment,
and we’re grateful for anything they offer beyond a beautiful cup.

How much caffeine do Fiddlehead Farm teas contain?

None. All of our loose-leaf teas are herbal, meaning they’re made entirely from plants like roots, leaves, flowers, and berries—not
from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). Many of the herbs we use have been enjoyed in herbal infusions for centuries, and several are considered adaptogens, traditionally valued for supporting balance in the body—without the stimulation or crash of caffeine.

Introduced by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture in 2002, the Kentucky Proud brand (which was originally called Kentucky Fresh) was created as a central platform to raise awareness of the Commonwealth’s ever-expanding agricultural industry and to promote Kentucky’s farm families and farm products. In 2008, Kentucky Proud became the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s official agricultural marketing brand by legislative action (KRS 260.017).
